About the FRA
The Flatwater Racing Association was formed in 2013 to coordinate two annual canoe race series run by clubs in the Herts/Essex/Cambs area, and now expanded to include races in Bedfordshire and Kent.
The Winter Series of canoe marathons was formalised in 1981 and (apart from the 2020-21 series, which was prevented by Covid lockdown) has been running continuously ever since. Over the years the venues have changed as some clubs have dropped out and others have taken their place. Currently, Winter Series races are hosted and organised by Barking & Dagenham CC, Bishops Stortford CC, Cambridge CC, Chelmsford CC, Leighton Buzzard CC & Maidstone CC. Please see the Winter Series page.
In the past, several of the same clubs have also organised local sprint regattas for many years, and in 2007 it was decided to coordinate these into a Summer Series, though Bishops Stortford is now the only one still running a part of the FRA. Please see the Summer Series page.
The Association has a committee comprising a representative from each of the member clubs, and there are two elected Officers. The FRA operates according to a Constitution agreed by the participating clubs. For Data Protection information, please see the Privacy page.
The 2026 AGM will be held online and is scheduled for Wednesday 10 June 2026.
