Portaging:
Please remember at all times (and especially when portaging) to be courteous to other river users and respect others' right of way. Follow marshal's directions, remembering that inappropriate behaviour could result in time penalties or disqualification. Assistance is permitted at portages for those who need it BUT

- helpers must walk only, carrying only the rear end of the boat
- assisted competitors must give way to unassisted competitors
- parents/supporters must not crowd the portage or enable their paddlers to queue-jump
- helpers must use safe lifting & handling techniques - involvement is at your own risk

Southmill Lock, upstream side.
Those on the 3-mile & 5-mile courses (classes 20-39) get in above Southmill Lock. u12s & u14s must use small split-level landing stage (right bank) when getting in and portaging back downstream. Other classes may choose. Portage assistance here will be provided for u12s, u14s, GP & Paddleability. |

Southmill Lock, downstream side.
Those on the 3-mile & 5-mile courses (classes 20-39) may get in immediately below the lock (left bank) or make a long portage to the landing stage outside the clubhouse. Those on the 7-mile course (classes 1-10) get in at either of these locations for their start . |

Twyford Lock, upstream side.
3-mile course: classes 30-39 turn here (Turn 2). 5/7-mile courses: classes 1-25 portage on left above the weir, on the wooden jetty (on right), or to the left of the mouth of the lock. Use extreme caution when crossing the road. |

Only access is via a well-built landing stage. |

Spellbrook Lock.
5-mile course: classes 20-25 turn here (Turn 3). 7-mile course: classes 1-10 portage on the left. Take care crossing the road. |

Tednambury Lock. Portage on the left.
There is no road access to this lock, and no marshal present. Continue to Sawbridgeworth Lock (Turn 4) |

The access lane to the club (a private farm track marked "Styleman's Lane" on some maps) comes off the A1060 (Hallingbury Road).
- When driving southwards from B. Stortford it is on the right just after the "Welcome to Essex" and national speed limit signs
- If you are driving northwards it is on the left immediately after Haigh's yard (formerly Darlington's Aggregates).
Subject to the weather, parking will be on the field next to the clubhouse (by kind permission of the owner).
If you are bringing a trailer, or if you have mobility issues which will affect where you can park, please contact the Race Organiser in advance.
