Team Leader Registration
for Winter Series 2022-2023
Competitors usually race as part of a team with a named Team Leader appointed by their club. Each Team Leader must register at or before the first race attended. By registering you agree to take on certain responsibilities for your team. Independent paddlers (or their parents/guardians if the paddler is under 18) take on these responsibilities with respect to themselves.
Privacy: We will process the information you give us about yourself and your team members on the basis of our legitimate interest as the coordinators of this race series. For more information, see the Privacy page. Please contact the Secretary with any concerns.
You can register in either of two ways:
- using the online forms below (your information will be transmitted to FRA by Weebly, who will also record your IP address)
- download a PDF equivalent (below), print out & email back as a photo/scan - or complete it electronically if you have the capability
Left your registration to the last minute? Download a form and bring it with you to the race, together with BC cards if required.

Online Registration
Team or Independent Paddler - which should you register as? If you are a group coming from a recognised club, then you are probably a Team and only your Team Leader needs to register. Otherwise, you should register as an Independent - no-one needs to do both! If in doubt, contact the Secretary for advice.
By registering as a Team Leader (or Independent Paddler) you are agreeing that you will:
- Read and abide by the Series Rules and safety information for each race. Attend/read the Event Briefing and endeavour to ensure your paddlers understand and follow the instructions.
- Satisfy yourself that your paddlers understand race behaviour and safety procedure, and are competent and fit to participate under the prevailing local conditions. Where necessary, you will endeavour to ensure that additional precautions (e.g. wearing a PFD) are taken, and will alert the Race Organiser to any special safety concerns.
- Arrange for each of your paddlers to be covered by British Canoeing (BC) public liability insurance. If you are an FRA club which has participated in organising the race, then all your club members will be covered. Otherwise, each participant must show evidence of current BC On-Water membership. (At Chelmsford only, purchasing BC Event Insurance may also be an option).
- Ensure that all of the boats used meet the licensing requirements for the water on which the race takes place.
- Ensure that your club’s documentation gives you authority to pass race entry details of your team members to the FRA, and that they have been told that race results and photos from the event will be published but that they have the right to object. You will alert the FRA to any known objections.
- Send details of new entries in advance, or book them in personally at the first race they attend.
- Liaise with the Race Organiser to resolve any protests, as described in the Rules.
- Ensure that all of your team’s race boards are returned and any fines for lost boards are paid before leaving the race.* There is a £5 fee for every board not returned (board deposits will be required from paddlers not racing as part of a team from a BC club) .
- Arrange a competent adult to stand in as Acting Team Leader if you are unable to be present with your team at any race – the substitute will identify themselves at the booking-in desk on the day and is encouraged to provide a mobile phone number.
* The process for board return may vary from venue to venue, but will be made clear on the day.
By completing my details below I agree to take on the responsibilities detailed above. I understand that these details will be held by the FRA Secretary for the sole purpose of administering the participation of my team in this series, and my name and mobile phone number may be shared with Race Organisers and their staff for use on the day.
Team Leader registration - What happens next?
When we receive your registration, we will send you an entry form in Word that you can use to enter your team before each race - the details we require are a bit different to those you would supply for a Hasler. You will only need to send full details for new entries/crews; for those you have already told us about, just their allocated competitor number and name is enough (unless they change class or doubles partner). If your club is not part of the FRA, you will need to return details of your paddler's On-Water BC membership as part of their entries. (Club Associate Membership is not sufficient for Group B races) Please let your team members know whether they should each pay at the desk or whether you will be paying for them en bloc. |
Don't forget to email a photo of your BC card now to secretary@FlatwaterRacing.org.uk, or you will have to show it at the desk on race day.
Independent registration - What happens next?
Come to the booking in desk on the day and pay your race entry and number board deposit. Once you are registered you do not need to pre-book for future races in the series unless you are changing class or changing doubles partners - but if you can let us know you are coming we do appreciate it as the race organisers like to know how many they are expecting. |
